Visit by Gordon Shelley (Focussed Intervention Team)

Below is a copy of the write up submitted by Gordon Shelley (FIT) following his visit to Clubworthy House

Visit to Nos Nom Residential Home (Clubworthy, North Cornwall)

Nos Nom is a Residential home for Adults with Learning Disabilities and aims to provide 1:1 support for able bodied individuals with a learning disability who may have associated health and welfare needs

With a Green, Ethical lifestyle Mike and Penny will be providing a service where everyone will be regarded equally and valued for their individuality.

A maximum of two residential places available, of which one place is now available, it offers individual support in a friendly atmosphere where
residents form part of the decision making process, choice of decoration and division of household labour.

Set in a tranquil rural area 8 miles to the north of Launceston, the three acre site offers equestrian pursuits, small animal care and vegetable cultivation. The gardens are also accessible, safe and very well maintained.

On the day of the visit, Wed 3 Dec 08, I met with both Mike and Penny who live in, and they showed me around all facilities both internal and external. I also met with the current resident who was getting ready to ride-out with Penny for an afternoon with the both horses.

Mike and Penny both stressed the need for a well balanced and appropriate programme of integration of a new resident taking into regard the existing dynamics of the group thus far.

The house itself, ranging from a 200 year old refurbished front to an 8 year old extension at the rear exudes a feeling of warmth and comfort with very few visible signs of a residential homes’ legal requirements. The bedrooms are spacious and fall well within the requirements of CSCI, whose approval the home has had since Summer 08.

We as FIT (Focused Intervention Team) will add this facility to our portfolio of currently available residential placements.
